How do I find?

Searching for Bibles in a specific language

If you’re searching for a Bible in a specific language using WorldCat Local, it can be really difficult to find what you’re looking for with a basic keyword or title search, so I’ve figured out a search string that seems to work for this.

ut:Bible   ["ut" stands for Uniform Title in cataloging jargon, if that helps it make sense for anyone]

After typing that in, you can narrow your results by the language, which should work for any of the major languages. However, WorldCat lumps together lesser known languages together by category. For example, we have a few Bibles in some less familiar languages from Southeast Asia that WorldCat puts together under “Sino-Tibetan,” and when you click on that option, the record will not tell you which language the Bible is in, because WorldCat does not display that for some unknown yet extremely annoying reason. So, if by some rare possibility a patron comes in asking you for a Bible in Hmar or Garo, you will need to do a behind-the-scenes search through Connexion to make sure you get what you’re looking for, and feel free to ask me for help if it’s needed.
